Graduation
When F-1/J-1 visa students finish their program and leave the United States permanently, they should contact/email International.Services@utsa.edu to notify of their departure date.
If you plan to go to another program of study after graduating from UTSA -- either at UTSA or at another school -- you must contact International Student Services and complete the appropriate procedures no later than the end date of their grace period.
GRACE PERIOD
F-1 students may remain in the United States for 60 days following the completion of their academic programs if they have not applied for OPT. Individuals in F-1 visa status may remain in the United States for 60 days following the expiration date of post-completion OPT.\
- J-1 students who have completed a course of study including any authorized post-completion Academic Training are given a 30-day grace period for departing the United States
- During the grace period F-1/J-1 students are not permitted to travel outside the United States and return on F-1/J-1 visa status.
- F-1/J-1 students are not permitted to work or study during the grace period

- Depart the United States
- Enter another program of study at UTSA
- Transfer to another program of study at another school
- Apply for post-completion OPT
