New Student Arrival Guide

Welcome to UTSA! We’re excited to have you join us, and we want to make sure you have a smooth transition to campus life.

 

In the International Student Arrival Guide, you will find valuable information on what to expect when you arrive on campus including useful resources like banking, cellphone set up, and housing. We’ve also included information on where to find necessities once you’re in the US, so you can settle in with ease.

Congratulations on your Undergraduate Admission to UTSA!

Now it’s time to follow the next steps to officially become a Roadrunner:

  1. Get Rowdy Ready and Register for Classes | Your Rowdy Ready checklist is designed to help you understand and keep track of your to-do items, which will include meeting TSI testing requirements, completing New Student Orientation and Advising, and registering for classes. You can check your personal Rowdy Ready status in real-time on your myUTSA Account Classic View. Once you log in, click the “Future Roadrunner” tab and scroll to the “for ADMITTED STUDENTS” section to find your Rowdy Ready link. This area will only be available for students who are admitted to UTSA.

Activating your myUTSA ID

After applying to UTSA, you should receive an email from myUTSAaccount@utsa.edu with a link and instructions to activate your myUTSA ID account. Once activated, you will use your myUTSA ID and passphrase to log into just about everything here, including your student portal called myUTSA Account.

I didn’t get an activation email
If you didn’t receive your activation email or need help, contact the One Stop Enrollment Center at 210-458-8000. They will be able to resend you an activation email, after confirming your identity.

I forgot my password
If you need to reset your password/passphrase, visit the UTSA Passphrase Portal.

I activated myUTSA ID, but I can’t access myUTSA Account
If you’re unable to access myUTSA Account, click the Forgot/Reset Passphrase link on the myUTSA Account page to reset your login information. If you can’t reset the passphrase (because you didn’t set up contact/reset information), contact One Stop Enrollment Center at 210-458-8000 for the link to be re-sent.

Activating your Duo for UTSA Account/Email Access

To set up your DUO account please follow the steps on this link, it will be required to access UTSA EMAIL: https://onestop.utsa.edu/resources/duo/ 

After succesfully enrolling in DUO please use this link to access your email and then follow the instructions from International Services Welcome Email on how to request your I-20 using our student portal!

All documents will be submitted on portal to request I-20 digitally.

Resources for After I-20 is Issued

MyUTSA ID Card

UTSACard is the official identification card of the UTSA community. It provides access to meal plans, Rowdy Dollars, sporting events, residence halls, final exams, and more.

In Person Instructions

To get card bring a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID, etc.) and your Banner ID number to Campus Services. The office is located at MS 1.01.52 (Main Campus)   <--Click link to show map

 

On Campus Employment

Handshake

UTSA students and alumni may use Handshake to search for jobs and internships, view and attend virtual recruiting events, and schedule appointments to meet a Career Consultant. Login: https://careercenter.utsa.edu/handshake-login/ 

Jobs available to international students typically refer to jobs that do not require Workstudy Funds to get paid. 

On-campus employment options depend on where the work is physically located and who the employer is.

  • On-campus, employed by UTSA
  • On-campus, employed by campus commercial firms
  • At the site of an organization educationally affiliated with UTSA, employed by UTSA (requires written authorization)

Eligibility

  • Valid F-1 status
  • Valid unexpired Form I-20 from UTSA
  • Enrollment in fall and spring semesters
  • No special authorization on the I-20 is required if working on campus for UTSA or select companies providing services to students, e.g. UTSA University Bookstore, UTSA Dining Services

Employment Details

  • New and transfer students may begin on-campus employment up to 30 days prior to the program start date on the Form I-20
  • Cannot work on campus after the completion of program dates
  • Must physically work at the UTSA campus
  • May be part-time (1-20 hours each week) during the fall and spring semesters
  • May be part-time (1-20 hours each week) or full-time (21 or more hours each week) during the summer and other official school breaks only for continuing students
