Meet our Instructors

Dr. Makiko Fukuda is a Professor of Instruction and an Honors faculty at UTSA. She was born and raised in a small town called Hokuto in Hokkaido in the northern part of Japan until receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Japan. In 2003, she moved to Indiana and completed her Master’s degree in Japanese pedagogy and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience in higher education in the U.S. and has taught the Japanese language at Purdue University and Middlebury Summer Language School prior to UTSA. She is the winner of the 2019 Texas Foreign Language Association Teacher of the Year and currently serves as the board member of the Japanese Teachers Association in Texas.

My name is Noriko Baxter and I have been teaching Japanese at High schools since 2009 in San Antonio. Also, I have been teaching at Japanese Supplementary School on Saturdays since 2005. I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and teaching about JAPANESE culture.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm
    • 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - classes
    • 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm - lunch
    • 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm - cultural activities
  • The schedule may vary on Thursdays because of the field trips
  • The academy will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2022 (Memorial Day)
